PHONICS & SPELLING
STEPS is the Sequential Teaching of Explicit Phonics & Spelling. Phonics, by definition, is the mapping of speech sounds to the symbols we use to represent them. Spelling is the ability to use both phonics knowledge and spelling rules to spell words. STEPS training will teach you the fundamental sounds of English to the point of automaticity. Armed with this knowledge, you can teach children to understand and apply spelling rules within grade appropriate spelling rules. |
